Sermon Highlights for Nov. 11, 2009

  • What is a Patriot? Someone who loves their country. Mark Twain said a patriot is someone who is willing to holler the loudest & not know what he is hollering about
    • Modern day patriot, Dr. D. James Kennedy said, “America, turn your heart back to Jesus”
  • John the Baptist was a true patriot (told about Jesus before His first coming)
    • Why was John the Baptist a true Patriot?
    • His mission was deliberate
    • His job was to prepare for the first coming of the Lord
      • Our job is to prepare for the second coming of the Lord
    • His message was decisive
    • His motive was direct and our motive should be direct as well.
      • We would not have gotten saved if a message had not been directed toward us. There is a time for being direct. If you died today, do you know for certain that you would go to Heaven?
  • The message is, “Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand”
  • John’s manner was different
  • Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire
  • What are some Biblical principles that you will not allow to be taken away from you?
  • John the Baptist was all about developing people. We must begin to help develop other people and allow God to develop us too.
  • If we’re not walking in repentance, then we’re walking in pride
  • It’s not about us letting God down, but about Him helping us because we were such a mess (sanctification)
  • The Bible says He takes our sin and casts it as far as the east is from the west
